Featured Quilt - Balancing the Thermometer's Scales

The weather is a fickle thing, having it be hot when it should be cold and vice versa. While creating her temperature quilt for Quiltcon 2022's MQG Temperature Quilts exhibit, Jean MacKie experienced this regularly when trying to have the hots and colds of her quilt, Temperature Quilt 2020, balance out.

She writes, "Early on, I decided I wanted some order rather than just a collection of colours. To achieve this I needed the high temperatures on the left side and the low temperatures on the right side. The top row start with colours that match the daily highs followed by the daily lows for the first week of January. This continued through out the quilt. The cold winter days are represented by greys and the hot summer days are represented by oranges. By December I was standing on the doorstep begging for some really cold weather as the quilt needed dark greys in the lower right hand side. It did not happen...
Whoops! There Was a Mix Up with Monday's Quilt

Please Note: There was an error in Monday's newsletter attributing Albuquerque 2020 to the Ann Peterson who was a guest on our show. This was not the case and it was discovered by the Ann Petersen who was on our show when reading the newsletter. We'd like to apologize to both Ann Petersons for the error.

Mary McCauley's Vessels Hold Tons of Quilting Know How
And They Each Hold A Secret Too!

Mary McCauley shows Ricky how to design a template panel for making a simple vessel. Mary considers each of the fabric panels on her vessels to be a little "mini quilt" that can offer lots of opportunities for quilting, embroidery and decorative machine stitches. Once completed, the "mini quilt" panels are stitched together to form the vessel, and you won't believe what she hides at the bottom of each one.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Hollywood Goes Quilting
"Samson and Delilah" by Jerry Granata

Samson and Delilah by Jerry Granata was based on an image designed for a Hollywood film set by Erté, one of the founding fathers of the art deco movement. Jerry quilted this gargantuan quilt on a BERNINA 440 on a small dining room table in his motor home.

Samson and Delilah itself is a multiple award-winning quilt. It won an honorable mention at the MQX Quilt Festival New England 2013, 2nd Place at the NQA 2013 Show, and a 3rd Place at the Georgia Quilt Show, just to name a few.
