Featured Quilt - One Quilter, Two Quilts, Amazing Work

We feel in love with Laura L. Pomes' quilt, Inspired Heart (50" x 73"), when we saw it as part of the Wall Quilts - Quilter's Choice exhibition (Sponsored by Elna USA) at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2024. From the color selection, to the fussy cut circles, and imaginative use of log cabin blocks, it caught our attention. Then we found out that Laura was also the 1st place winner of the New Quilts From an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties Exhibition & Contest with her quilt Roses' Roaring Fans. This quilter has a a great imagination and great technical skills. Take a look at her work.

Taking The Traditional In New and Modern Directions

Kellie Beckwith is known for bringing new life to traditional quilt blocks. Whether it’s blending crochet with finished quilt blocks, or sharing tips on how to perfectly piece the elements of a maple leaf block without frustration, Kellie shares her love of the past mixed with modern practices. Nancy Bavor (Appraiser and Director Emerita of San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles) unwraps the mysteries of an appraiser's calculations when valuing a quilt.

Museum of Texas Tech University: Finishing Tops

Many quilters are stymied by the idea of perfection. Every point must line up and every stitch must be perfect; in reality, finished is far better than perfect. The hang-up about perfection has resulted in too many unfinished quilt tops. Learn more about Linda Fisher and how she finished one of her "abandoned" tops in the latest article from the Museum of Texas Tech University.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Pretty "Pink" Flowers

"Pink Lillies" by Michelle de Groot

Pink Lillies was created using Lumiere fabric paints on a white wholecloth fabric top to produce a beautiful floral work. The background was free-motion quilted on a sit down machine.
