Featured Quilt - "I'm Still Standing"

Many things stand the test of time, photos, art, buildings, and so much more. Linda Waddle's quilt is based on such a building. Still Standing was featured in the Art-Painted Surface category at Houston in 2017 and its inspiration has seen its fair share of history. "Old barns foster a yearning for simpler times...nostalgia for things long gone. This barn, in Bucklands, Nevada, witnessed the Pony Express and Paiute indian wars, served as a stage stop, and was the heart of this ranch. I find it remarkable that it is still standing and now part of a historical landmark." Now Linda's quilt will keep standing as a tribute of its own.

"Chihuly's Gondola" by Melissa Sobotka

Based on a photo she had taken at the The Dallas Arboretum in 2012 at the Dale Chihuly exhibit, Melissa was taken by Chihuly's artistry and mastery of glass to create Chihuly's Gondola. Following the wise advice of learning from the best, Melissa was able to learn how to incorporate highlights, shadows, and reflections in her quilt based on Chihuly's art, creating the depth you wouldn't normally see in a 2D medium.
