Featured Quilt - A Silent Film Star Shines

All you Taylor Swift fans will absolutely love Jessica Drennan's amazing quilt, Clara Bow Wearing a Cloak (if you know, you know). Featured as part of the New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties on display at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY, it uses the Grandmother’s Fan Block as its inspiration. Many tiny iterations of the block surround a beautiful portrait of the silent film screen legend. And speaking of the Grandmother's Fan block, all of the tiny ones used by Jessica are pieced, over 300 of them! She says, "Over three hundred Grandmother's Fan blocks were transformed into Art Deco style diamonds in a color palette reminiscent of the black and white films of the time."

Meet Ridgy Didge, Your Favorite New Koala Friend

In our brand new show, Michelle de Groot shares how to build an original fused Koala design she calls Ridgy Didge before machine appliquéing in place. See how multiple blocks can be personalized and combined into a larger quilt, fun tote, or small baby blanket when you need a gift in a hurry.

Learn from Michelle by watching her in How to Quilt with Rulers, Use Decolorant (Non-Bleach), and Make a Koala Quilt with Michelle de Groot.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Happy "Hibiscus"

"Hula Hibiscus" by Lisa Calle

Hula Hibiscus is Lisa's first "scrap" quilt. While she loves scrap quilts, Lisa herself has a phobia of putting fabrics together that don't match. So in essence Hula Hibiscus is her version of a scrap quilt as all of the fabrics used were in Lisa's stash. It was awarded Best of Show at both the AQS Show in Des Moines, Iowa and the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza in Oaks, Pennsylvania.

See more of Lisa's quilts in Longarm Quilting Designs with Lisa Calle | How to do Bojagi with Youngmin Lee.
