Featured Quilt - A Terrific Tablecloth Turned Quilt

Much in Common by Jenny K. Lyon was featured in the Innovative category at Pacific International Quilt Festival 2021. Jenny's quilt was made from something well used and well loved from her home that she just couldn't get rid of. So what did she do with it? She turned it into a quilt!

She says, "My vintage linen tablecloth has stories to tell. I feel a kinship with her imperfections and wanted to preserve her beauty and celebrate her well-worn status. I enhanced her with free motion quilting, buttons, Prairie Points, piping and irregularly placed beading."

Learn from Jenny right here at The Quilt Show by watching her in How to Do Free Motion Quilting Designs with Jenny K Lyon | Alex Anderson Embroidered Ribbon.

Michelle de Groot Demos Working with Discharge

Take The Color Away and Add One You Just Love

Michelle de Groot demonstrates how to remove predetermined areas of color from black fabric that is then refilled with exuberantly colored dyes, pencils and inks on our brand new show. She then shows samples of completed pieces using this process.

Entering The Embroidery Embellishment Phase

In Month 7 of Pick a Petal, the 2024 BOM designed by Jen Kingwell, you are going to start adding some embroidery embellishment to appliquéd borders 1 and 2.

Jen used very simple stitches and has included them in this month's diagrams. If you would like to get more creative with your stitches, she suggests using Sue Spargo’s book, Creative Stitching.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: One Path "Leads To Another"

"When One Leads to Another" by Nysha Nelson

Nysha pieced When One Leads to Another in a class with Nancy Crow. He took it home and really liked the composition, but it took him three years to figure out how to quilt it. He came to realization on how to quilt it while he was taking a class with Diane Gaudynski. Nysha says about the quilt, "Sometimes we must step outside of what we know -- and our comfort zone in order to finish a project. This was one of those times for me. The quilting of this composition led to a whole new mindset in quilting."

I guess it’s not my “thing” to take color off of fabric and add more. So many new techniques to sell products, I guess I’m too much a traditionalist, preferring the basic quilting techniques.
