Featured Quilt - A True Celebration

The quilting world lost a true treasure this week with the sudden passing of Elsie Campbell. Elsie contributed so much to the quilting community and her loss has been felt by many. We are, however, fortunate to look at the quilting legacy she left behind including her most recent award-winning quilt, Celebration, a 1st Place Winner in the "other" category at Road to California 2022.

From Elsie:
"Large embroidered floral motif is influenced by a lace appliqué from my wedding dress. 2021 is the year of my husband Ken’s and my 50th wedding anniversary, thus the name Celebration. Hand embroidered background include Swarovski crystals and Superior’s Glitter thread embellishments."

We will miss you Elsie and will continue to celebrate the beauty you brought into our world.
On the Set with Alex and Ricky!
Hand Quilting vs. Machine Quilting

It's Alex vs. Ricky in that time-honored showdown, hand quilting vs. machine quilting. Alex steps into ring with a discussion of the tools needed, fabric and thread selection, and demonstrations of quilting and tying off knots.

Then it is Ricky’s turn to discuss the importance scale and density play when choosing a design for machine quilting. Design ideas continue as he shows a no-backtracking feather doodle design and how to deal with managing the bulk of a quilt under the arm of the machine bed.

Watch How to Do Hand Quilting and How to Do Machine Quilting with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, when it debuts this Sunday, January 30, 2022.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Reach For The Sky
"From Sea to Sky and Back Again" by Lisa Thorpe

From Sea to Sky and Back Again is a story quilt inspired by a hike that Lisa took with her husband along the Sonoma Coast from sea to sky. It was an incredibly challenging hike for the two, barely making it up and back down again, but they accomplished it. With a red stitched line signifying the path they took, and stitched birds to represent the ravens and seagulls they saw along the way, this simple journey created a memorable quilt.
