Featured Quilt - The Quilt That Launched Jinny Beyer's Career

In honor of Jinny's retirement,  we wanted to feature her quilt Ray of Light. Jinny completed this quilt in October 1977. It is one of her India-inspired designs and is hand pieced and hand quilted made with American and Indian fabrics. Ray of Light was entered in Good Housekeeping magazine's 1977 quilt contest and took the grand prize of $2,500. As the winner of the Good Housekeeping and U.S. Historical Society contest, The Great American Quilt,  Jinny was launched on her quilting career.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Spot of Feline Intrigue
"Dot" by Carol Morrissey

Based on a photo of her friend's kitten, Dot is probably the quilt in Carol Morrissey's Exaggerated Pointillism series with the most apropos name. The difficult part she says, as most painters and sketch artists would tell you, is getting the eyes just right. In this instance, Carol knocked it out of the park as Dot's eyes stare right back at you from any angle you look.
