Featured Quilt - Second Place Abstract at Houston 2022
Radiance by Jane Sassaman won Second Place in the Abstract category at 2022 Houston International Quilt Festival. Jane, whose colorful fabrics are known far and wide, had a much more earthbound inspiration for this quilt than its out-of-the-world colors would suggest. She says, "This abstract quilt was inspired by botanical forms and celebrates the magical mysteries of
Mother Nature." Okay, so maybe it is a little bit magical too!

"Fleur de Glace" by Colette Dumont
Fleur de
Glace features over 31,000 beads, plus Swarovski crystals, and was made using Colette's Stained Glass technique featuring a lamé bias. In certain sections of the quilt, Colette intentionally cut areas out to feature the beads and crystals exclusively. The name of the quilt translates to "ice flower", which is appropriate because Colette says it was "inspired by the flower of ice in winter." It has won two Best of Show Awards, one at AQS Daytona Beach 2018 and the other at the 2017 Canadian Quilter Association.
After completing the puzzle, make a point to view the many detail photos of Fleur de Glace to see the cut outs, the lamé bias, and of course, the 31,000 beads.
