Featured Quilt - Second Place Pictorial Small at Houston 2022

Remembrance by Judith Phelps won Second Place in the Pictorial Small category at the 2022 Houston International Quilt Festival. The inspiration for Judith's award-winning quilt was, of all things, a book club, albeit one with a quilting twist.

She says, "For a Book Club Thread Tales Challenge, I used The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, which takes place in France during World War Two. A woman ties three red ribbons to an apple tree in her front yard for Antoine, her husband taken as a prisoner of war; Rachel, a Jewish best friend forced into a cattle car; and Sara, a young Jewish girl who was shot and killed. The stone wall around the apple tree had been torn down by the Germans. The ribbons represent a promise to never forget!"

Go Tell It! Interview with The Quilt Show Editor-in-Chief Lilo Bowman

A Quilt's Story Shared and Saved

Lilo Bowman, Editor-in-Chief and Production Manager for The Quilt Show, has made a Go Tell It video for the Quilt Alliance to preserve the story of her quilt, Looking at the Stars and Thinking of You, which she made in honor of her sons when they lived and worked overseas. It is a perfect story for this holiday season, especially when we can't be with the ones we love.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: It's A Jungle Out There

"In The Jungle" by Catherine Redford

After teaching embroidery in Portland, the organizers of that show asked Catherine if she'd be interested in having a solo exhibit. Of course, she said yes, and after giving them a title for the show and figuring out how much space she had to fill, Catherine set off to work. She made ten quilts for the exhibit, which was called Trip Around the World in Folk Art Stitches, of which In The Jungle was one of them. The ten quilts were inspired by folk art around the world, with the art being anything from painting, to pottery, to textiles. After finding designs she liked, she reproduced them in stitches and made ten quilts. In The Jungle was inspired by the Mayan ruins in Belize.
