Featured Quilt - Deborah Boschert's Judge's Choice Award at Houston 2023

We love to see it. At the 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival we had one TQS guest award their Judge's Choice Award to another TQS guest. Deborah Boschert, who was featured in Series 2100, awarded TQS Quilt Legend Jean Wells Keenan her Judge's Choice Award (Sponsored by Bohin France) for her quilt Surfside and Beyond.

Jean's quilt is another inspired by her love for her home in Sisters, Oregon. She says, "The varied colors, patterns, shapes, and textures of objects that are tossed in the waves along the Pacific Ocean shoreline have endured the seasons of time. This quilt explores these elements in the use of a variety of textures, along with machine and hand stitching and machine piecing. Life's vital existence is evident in the unforgotten spaces between the shapes in this design."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Knitting On a Park Bench

"Sweet, Sweet Bliss" by Valerie C. White

Sweet, Sweet Bliss depicts "Valerie", Valerie's alter-ego as she sits upon a park bench in Denver doing her non-quilting hobby, knitting. The real Valerie loves to knit, appreciating the tactile nature of pulling the yarn and just hearing the needles clicking. During COVID, Valerie met a group of knitters while she herself was knitting on the park bench and became friends with them, sitting and knitting all afternoon until it would get too hot. The quilt represents a slice of real life for Valerie, the only thing not so true, and why it depicts her alter-ego, is Valerie gave herself flying reddish brown hair.
