Featured Quilt - Best Pictorial Quilt Innovative at PIQF 2024
Marie by LeAnn Hileman won Best Pictorial Quilt - Innovative at Pacific International Quilt Festival 2024. The quilt was inspired by LeAnn's mother, also named Marie. She says, "Marie is based upon a black-and-white family snapshot of my mother, Marie Jackson. I liked the strong foundation portrayed in her stance, while the bit of ruffle at her shoulder conveyed her femininity and vulnerability. She was gazing at the site of the chicken barn, which they would later construct. I'm sure she was hoping it would be a good source of income, cash income being in short supply for farm women of that time and place." |

"California Dreamer" by Lesley Riley
When a woman posted a photo of her mother standing out in the fields of California, Lesley asked if she could use the photo in a quilt. The woman agreed, and California Dreamer was born. Part of the quilt is the actual photo, and then Lesley added appliqué and collage to accentuate it.
