A Bittersweet Bouquet by Marie O'Kelley won Best Hand Workmanship - Innovative at PIQF 2017. When making the quilt, Marie definitely had clear intentions for what she wanted it to be, and we think she can explain it best. "Robert Herrick wrote the lines "Gather ye rosebuds" in the mid 1600s; 300 years later Janis Joplin was singing "Get in while you can." It's the same sweet song. My original inspiration for this quilt was the fabric with skeletons and roses. The appliquéd roses were adapted from a quilting design by Margaret Docherty in her book "Birds and Roses.""

David Sirota is Here to Help You Make Your Quilts Easier and More Fun
"I have made only one paper pieced table topper, and it was trial, and error, and error, and error. Finally finished and was pleased with it but somewhat frustrated. David's method makes it so much easier to see the correct direction for each additional piece of the pattern. And not having to pull out all the stitched down paper. Another time saving feature. I really appreciated his clear directions, and his sense of humor too. Yep, he's a maven. Thanks!!" - Johanna LaChance

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Blast of Color and Shape

"Explosion" by Katie Pasquini Masopust
While Explosion looks like it might be based on the sun "exploding" over a cityscape, it turns out it's actually based on a Croton, a red, yellow, and green houseplant. Katie took a really zoomed in picture of the plant and then did an exploding grid version of it to create her quilt.
See more of Katie's quilts in How to Make Reimagined Log Cabin Blocks with Katie Pasquini Masopust.
