Featured Quilt - "Inspired by Paradise"
|
|
Inspired by Paradise is vibrant whole-cloth, hand-painted quilt by Denise Rutter-Lang that was juried into AQS Paducah in 2018. Measuring 104" x 104", it began as a single piece of white fabric. Denise sought to replicate a Hawaiian style quilt.
She writes, "Once all of the "blocks" and center area were designed, I transferred the designs to my big piece of white fabric, which I then quilted on my longarm. Once quilting was finished came the most time-consuming phase- hand painting the whole-cloth, using Inktense pencils, Jacquard colorless extender, with some PearlEx powdered pigment (for shimmer). The painting took about ten months. In all, the quilt took about one and a half years to complete."

"Flying Beauty" by David Sirota
Flying Beauty is a paper pieced quilt that features a combination of two classic blocks, the Flying Geese and the New York Beauty. But in order to create the smaller circles of Flying Geese, David added an extra bit of negative space to his curve around the combined block. By doing this, when he put four of his blocks together for the quilt, an extra circle of flying geese was born.
