Featured Quilt - Best In Show at The Festival of Quilts 2024
Congratulations to recent TQS guest and all around wonderful person Sue Sherman! Sue's quilt, Dear Humans..., just won Best In Show (Sponsored by Handi Quilter) at The Festival of Quilts 2024 in Birmingham, England. If you haven't see this quilt yet, prepare to be amazed as it is both a beautiful work of art and shares an important message as well.
Sue says of her quilt, "The animals are sending a message to humans, offering their opinion about the state of things. If you look closely, you can see where the humans have filled the sky with their empty talk about addressing habitat loss and climate change, but don’t do enough to help. Wholecloth cotton painted with thickened dyes."
If you'd like to see more of this amazing quilt, AND learn some great techniques from Sue as well, then join us right here at The Quilt Show and watch How to Paint with Thickened Dyes and Use Thread Painting with Sue Sherman | The Potato Chip Block with Tracy Mooney. |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: The Touch of a Green Thumb |

"The Patron Saint of Gardeners" by Lesley Riley
At a point when she was making dolls, Lesley read how Egyptian mummies were wrapped and was inspired to create a quilt based on that idea. The Patron Saint of Gardeners is that quilt, and Lesley likes to say that she quilted her quilt with seeds because she used a small seed stitch throughout the piece. The quilt is the first time Lesley printed a photograph on fabric to create the idea of a full-sized person.
See more of Lesley's quilts in How to Use Photos to Make Fabric (TAP - Transfer Artist Paper) with Lesley Riley. |
