Featured Quilt - Third Place Art Abstract, Large at Houston 2017

Schist #2 by Heather Pregger won Third Place - Art Abstract, Large at the 2017 Houston International Quilt Festival. Here's what Heather had to say about the inspiration for her work: "I was a geology major in college, and I spent many happy hours in the mineralogy lab, poring over microscopic thin sections of rocks and minerals. This piece is based on a drawing I made of a mica schist, a metamorphic rock containing mica, biotite, and muscovite."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Get a Hold of That Leash!

"The One That Got Away" by Kestrel Michaud

Something that Kestrel is really pushing herself towards in her newer quilts is storytelling. So the story of The One That Got Away is that in her steampunk world, two guys thought that it would be a great idea to strap a steam-powered propeller-driven backpack onto their dog and turn him into a drone. Unfortunately though, one of them has dropped the leash while the dog is in the air. Therefore, the quilt depicts the exact moment that the leash gets dropped, hence The One That Got Away. Don't worry though, the dog lands okay.
