Featured Quilt - Look at the Plaid
Dianne H. Morgan won 1st Place Small Quilts at American Legacy Quilt Show 2019 (and more) with her quilt, Window to the World, Oh the Possibilities. Lea used many techniques including those by Lea McComas (Show 1609), Gloria Loughman (Show 612), and Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry (Show 1308). Based on a photograph of her grandson, Dianne writes, "His plaid shirt is what most people remember about this quilt. I did not use plaid fabric; I created it using appli-piecing and a machine embroidery stitch. That was the only way I could think of to make it look like a real plaid shirt. I also used a few pens and markers for shading."
When you look at the quilt, make sure to zoom in on that shirt.
These pots of pincushions won't poke your fingers. Take a look at this tutorial on how to create these prickly pincushions from Hayley Grzych at WeAllSew.
Kris Vierra Has All Kinds of Tools in Her Quilter's Toolbox
Quilt Tools at the Hardware Store?
Kris Vierra takes the fear out of free-motion quilting, making quilted garments, and finishing your quilts. She also shows you the tools she uses from the hardware store that can help you trim and square up your quilt. Do you have these in your quilter's toolbox?
Ojo de Dios, made by Mary Kerr and quilted by Candice West, was part of Mary's Twisted exhibit. This exhibit focused on the incorporation of unfinished vintage textiles into a modern quilt aesthetic. Mary writes, "Scraps of vintage blocks and top fragments have been recycled to create new innovative quilts. These pieces begged to be offered a second chance and they now serve as a bridge between the vintage past and the modern future."
