Featured Quilt - Best of Show - Long Beach Quilt Festival "A Celebration of Color" 2023

En"Joy" This Quilt

This fabulous quilt is Joy (80" x 53") by Cole Whitaker. It won Best of Show in the 2023 "A Celebration of Color" judged show, sponsored by @equilterfabrics, at the Long Beach Festival.

Cole writes about his quilt, "This quilt was designed based on a picture that I took of a friend. I designed the quilt, pieced it, quilted it, and designed some of the fabrics that were included in it. I named the quilt Joy because that is what the picture embodies to me.”

To learn more about the quilt, click the Quilt Video tab on the Joy quilt gallery page and watch a video from Quilts Inc. where Cole talks with Bob Ruggiero about his quilt, his creative journey, and tracking down the friend whom he depicts in fabric!

A New Show Debuts Today with Diane Harris

Meet "The Stash Bandit"

Diane Harris, “The Stash Bandit”, joins Ricky to demonstrate her method for shaking up your stash of fabric scraps to create colorful, fun, and dynamic quilt designs with contrast, cohesion, and repetition. She then shares how working with just a single block can offer an infinite number of fabulous quilt designs and what lessons can be learned from what she calls ‘dog quilts’. You’ll never look at your stash in the same way.

Watch Diane in Learn How to Use Color, Contrast, and Cohesion When Making Scrappy Quilts with Diane Harris, which debuts today!

For Your Inspiration - A Second Modern Bridge in Singapore

The Helix Bridge - More Than Just Functional

Imagine walking across a bridge that is not only functional but also a work of art.* Well, you don't have to imagine anymore because the Helix Bridge in Singapore is exactly that. This iconic landmark has captured the hearts of locals and tourists alike since its construction in 2010.

Learn more about this fascinating bridge and take a look at the photos, we think its look might just inspire some of your quilting designs.

*Don't you find that can be true of quilts as well? You can make a beautiful quilt (aka work of art) that also functions as a cover for your bed.

Have You Listened to Running Stitch: A QSOS Podcast Yet?

A Bonus Episode Is Available Now

In each episode of the Running Stitch podcast, quilts and quiltmaking serve as a lens to examine some of today’s most pressing issues, including activism, public health, politics, race, and the economy. They dig into the QSOS archive to listen to excerpts from past interviews, and bring back interviewees to ask them about what they are working on and thinking about presently.

The Quilt Alliance just released a bonus episode, featuring an interview with Roderick Kiracofe originally recorded as a Textile Talk. You won't want to miss this conversation about off-beat but beautiful quilts.

You can also watch Roderick in Appliqué Flower Borders with Sue Nickels | Quilt Exhibit with Roderick Kiracofe.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Designing Amongst Clouds

"Cloud Rim: Summer 1991" by Shannon Conley

Cloud Rim: Summer 1991 is one of Shannon's smocked quilts and is part of a series she made that features repeating organic forms like you would find in a traditional quilt block with curves and shapes. Colorwise the quilt is inspired by the mountains of Utah where she went to summer camp one year.

See more of Shannon's quilts in Learn Canadian Smocking and Open Work with Shannon Conley | Miniature Quilts with Pat Holly.
