Featured Quilt - Inspired by Wendy Williams
Our California by Karla Dellner won 1st Place Visual Impact in the New Quilts of Northern Competition at PIQF 2019, and it's not hard to see why. Karla wanted to make a quilt that could proudly represent where she was from, and we think she can explain it best. "Our family loves California, and this quilt captures our favorite memories and places of this beautiful state. The quilt's architecture and "vibe", along with the village houses and flowers are adapted from Around the Garden by Wendy Williams. The San Francisco corner block is from Debra Gabel's Quilt Blocks Around The World." The quilt probably looks familiar, as it resembles our own 2021 BOM, Color My World, also by Wendy Williams!
In Monday's newsletter we featured the Alaska Row by Row quilt, which was misidentified as being made by Janet Lutz. While Janet featured this quilt on our show all about the Row by Row phenomenon (Show 1811), it was actually made by Gail Surrena. Find out more about Gail's Alaska Row by Row and her journey with the project over time.
WeAllSew Tutorial: Upcycle Old Jeans Pockets Into A Fun Organizer
Upcycle With Ease
When a pair of jeans can no longer be worn, there's no need to throw them away because they can always become something else. Debbi Lashbrook at WeAllSew is here to show you how to upcycle those old jean pockets into a fun denim organizer. After all, the DNA for many more great projects is right there in the "jeans"!
That's right, it's time for The Quilt Show to tape its next round of shows. That means that Alex will be away from her regular LIVE slot for the next week or so. But don't fret, Alex, and Ricky will be doing Pop-Up LIVES while they are away. And who knows, maybe a special guest or two will show up as well. In the meantime, catch up on all that Alex has been teaching recently in her Fabric Selection class!
Alex will return to teaching LIVE on Friday, September 3, 2021 @ 10am PST, 1pm EST, and 6pm London time. All classes are recorded so they can be viewed later.
We all love Sue Benner, but secretly, we may love her work even more. And she has provided us with some photos of three almost finished quilts that she wanted to share. These quilts were started on the set of Sue's show and were featured in the abstract design portion. Look and see how far along the've come since their inception.
Bold and Beautiful was made by the 2018 BERNINA Educator of the Year, Nina McVeigh! She was given an "assignment", to create a quilt from a box of fat quarters and an embroidery collection and Bold and Beautiful was the result. We love the bright, bold and beautiful look of the quilt she made.
