Featured Quilt - First Place Traditional Quilts at the 2023 Festival of Quilts
Carved Fairy Tale by Elena Smychenko won 1st Place - Traditional Quilts at the 2023 Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. On the inspiration for the quilt, Elena said, "My quilt is my mother's wooden box with carved patterns, which I remember from childhood. The gray thread around the floral patterns is dusty from time. Color transitions are like warm light from the childhood of the happiest child in the world."

Miniatures Quilts and Edge Treatments with Pat Holly
|
|
|
|
Amazing Details Come In Tiny Quilted Pieces
Pat Holly has been fascinated and
loved tiny elements since early childhood, so a career as an electron micron technician for this award-winning artist who is known for miniature quilts seemed like a no-brainer.
In our new show, Pat shows examples of miniature quilts and the challenges she set for herself with them. She then shares guidelines and tips for working in miniature and how small scale edge treatments can enhance a small piece.
Learn from Pat, and Shannon Conley, by watching Learn Canadian Smocking and Open Work with Shannon Conley | Miniature Quilts with Pat Holly.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Drying On The Line

|
"French Laundry" by Marcia Stein
French Laundry was created by Marcia using a photo that she took, turning it into a slide, and projecting that slide on the wall to draw the image to be the size of a quilt. The quilt was hand appliquéd, and Marcia says it took her at least three times to get the fabric for the purple shirt on the line to look right, and the solution was far simpler than she could have thought. The answer came in the form of the green pants on the left of the line, which while looking like hand-dyed fabric is actually a commercially available one that Marcia just let the colors of the fabric themselves replicate the creases and look of regular clothing. The same technique was then applied to the rest of the laundry in the
quilt.
See more of Marcia's quilts in How to Add Photos to Your Quilt and Machine Applique with Marcia Stein.
