Featured Quilt - The Sincerest Form of Flattery
What do you do when you love a work of art so much, but you can't have the original? Make your own version of course, albeit in a different medium. That's what Nadine Kirk did with her quilt, Visiting Vasarely's Beryll. Winning Best Use of Color - Modern at PIQF 2019, Nadine says, "This quilt is my interpretation of Victor Vasarely's 1963 piece Beryll, which was approx. 5'3" x 5'3" and made with vinyl. Vasarely worked with pure composition, form and color. The quilt was a challenge to figure out and make." Nadine certainly rose to the occasion by echoing Vasarely's work beautifully using machine piecing and hand appliqué.
Recently we featured a scavenger hunt for you to better know our site, and for you to get the chance to win a big box of Alex's fabric. We had more than 2200 people enter, and the vast majority completed the hunt and became eligible to win. Find out who our THREE winners are! (P.S. One of them has six quilts in our Member Gallery)
It's this fabulous quilt made between 1870 and 1890 in Paris, MO., which can be found in the DAR Museum. Take a look at the quilt, which looks just as modern today.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Quilt Structured Like A Cell
"Cellular Structure III" by Sue Benner
Cellular Structure III is Sue's quilt featuring an abstract version of cells. There are four cells that are jockeying for space, but the quilt is meant to represent the cell as a unit working together (in Sue's own abstract way). It is a third in a series from 2006 that Sue made because she has a degree in molecular biology and a passion for art, with many of her pieces often featuring similar themes.
Whether you are watching from the comfort or your home, or you are out camping in a tent, The Quilt Show is available for you watch at your convenience. So as long as you've got your computer and WI-FI handy, you can learn to be a great quilter literally anywhere! (Also, that's not a real tent, it's filming equipment. Did we fool you?)
