Featured Quilt - "I Will Get By, I Will Survive"
Sometimes giving the gift of a quilt is more rewarding than making it. For Edith Brady, that most definitely rings true for her Deadhead Quilt, which was made for someone who really needed it. As Edith writes, "Happiness is a Warm Quilt asked me to make a quilt for a Firestorm survivor in Santa Rosa. The fellow lost everything in the fire and was an ardent Grateful Dead fan. Inspired by the iconography of the band, this quilt emerged." The Deadhead Quilt was featured in the Innovative Category at PIQF 2019, and would warm Jerry Garcia's heart with the peace and love it brought to its recipient.
Alex cleaned out her stash and we have THREE 15" x 10" x 15" boxes of fabric to give away! Join our Scavenger Hunt and be entered to win one of those big boxes of fabric from Alex! But don't wait too long to get in on the action, because today (Wed, August 18, 2021) is the last day to enter.
Alex continues her tips on using and choosing different fabrics for your projects. Today, she talks about working with fabrics that have stripes and polka dots. Plus, Alex will be sharing pictures and stories from Pokey Bolton's (Show 2711) wonderful wedding.
Join Alex LIVETODAY on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 @ 10am PST, 1pm EST, and 6pm London time. All classes are recorded so they can be viewed later.
Did you see Sue de Vanny's amazing quilt, On Reflection - Cape Town Harbour Fenders, in Sunday's Newsletter? Well, now Lisa Walton(Show 2503), textile artist and past President of SAQA, is here to talk with Sue about the quilt and the processes she uses to create her art. It's time to roll on down and check out another great Quilt Stories.
In our newest show, Sue Benner shares a wonderful exercise in spontaneous design by building a grid using scraps of silk and recycled fabrics that are then fused on a canvas background. Be spontaneous yourself and create your own version after watching Sue do it!
Looking for a Fun, Easy and Fast Project? Try Sashiko!
Succeed With Sashiko
Have you done Sashiko before? Well if you haven't, The Quilt Show is here to remedy that. First, learn all about it from Pepper Corey in our show, How to Do Sashiko with Pepper Cory.
Then, do a wonderful traditional Sashiko Sampler, like this Kaki-No-Hana one, that is fun to make by stitching over the printed design. Once you have finished it, the printing washes off of the fabric. Use your completed project to make a table pad, small pillow or a bag, or make several and place them in a quilt!
The Quilt Show Puzzle: The Sewing Bird Strikes Again
"Long-Billed Tailorbird"by Sue Graham
Remember the sewing bird that we featured in a video on recently? Well, an ingenious quilter took the concept of the sewing bird and a made a quilt all about it! Long-Billed Tailorbird by Sue Graham is a wonderful representation of one of nature's quilters becoming a quilt itself. You know, that's how the circle of life goes, right?
