Featured Quilt - Double Award Winner at
the 2023 Festival of Quilts Birmingham
Gwenfai Rees Griffiths won not one, but TWO, fabulous awards the 2023 Festival of Quilt in Birmingham, England. Her quilt, Harrismith, took home the Excellence in Hand Quilting award for all of its amazing hand appliqué, hand embroidery, and quilting, and Second Place in the Traditional Quilts category as well. As to the inspiration for her quilt, Gwenfai says, "I admired the cut glass panel in the front door of my son’s house the first time I saw it. This quilt takes inspiration from the glass except for the size. I’ve made this hanging to fit the very odd stairwell I have in my old farmhouse."

The Maui Quilt Shop is trying to do its part to assist the victims by collecting finished quilts
to donate to those who have been impacted by the big Maui fire. Thankfully the Maui Quilt Shop is outside of the impacted area but, as you know, many lives were lost, and hundreds of businesses and many more homes were burned to the ground. Many thousands of people are displaced without any possessions or a place to stay. Learn more about how you can donate to this worthy cause.

"It Ain't Easy Being Green" by Ronda Beyer
With the feathered star being one of her favorite designs, and having the queen of the feathered star Marsha McCloskey being her mentor, it's not hard to see why this quilt was the one that really put Ronda's name out there. It Ain't Easy Being Green is a medallion quilt that Ronda taught at her mother's quilt camp and specifically made for it, with a focus on her love for the color green. Its name was decided after Ronda put pictures of it on the internet and asked for title suggestions. One person saw it and thought of Kermit the Frog and his song "Bein' Green" and the name just stuck.
