Featured Quilt - A Menagerie of Colors on Display
|
|
Created from an image she "took in Cape Town from a window overlooking the Harbour at the Fenders (tyres)", Sue de Vanny's work looks more like a photo than a quilt. On Reflection - Cape Town Harbour Fenders won Best Use of Color - Wall Quilt Competition at PIQF 2019 and it's not hard to see why. The most impressive work is how she uses "fabrics like dollops of paint to create the picture then thread sketching the detail."

Girl Scouts to the Rescue
Did you know that Girl Scouts can now earn a Textile Artist Badge? It is an at home program which requires the girls to choose their textile method of choice, find tools, materials, and patterns online to learn the basics. This led Girl Scout Corrine to the internet where she found a guide to removing stains from fabric. She thought it might be a good idea to share it on our site, and we do as well. Thanks, Corrine, and good luck with that badge!

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Building A Different Log Cabin

"Not Your Daddy’s Log Cabin in the Woods" by David Sirota
Developed for David's newest class, Not Your Daddy’s Log Cabin in the Woods is his take on a simple log cabin. Taking the standard square blocks and elongating them into rectangles completely changed the look of the quilt for David, with the black logs and black sashing that he added filling in the details that aren't there and creating the impression of ovals when it's all just straight lines. The quilt takes its name from its backing fabric, which features beautiful leaves.
