Featured Quilt - Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Traditional at PIQF 2024
And There is More by Inger C. Blood won Best Sewing Machine Workmanship - Traditional at Pacific International Quilt Festival 2024. Inger says of how she constructed her quilt, "The traditional pieced top gave the opportunity to make a two sided quilt*. The back is a whole cloth embellished with beads and crystals. The edge treatment was fun to make and a good learning experience."
*PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately we do not have photos of the back of Inger's quilt. We were only able to photograph the front as it hung at PIQF. |

What's Cooking at The Quilt Show?
SusanClaire Mayfield, the Gourmet Quilter, joins us to share a three-course meal of delicious quilting inspiration. Learn how to pre-cut, store, and use fabric leftovers, that cut down your fabric stash, while building new quilts. Learn creative ways of working with large, digitally printed panels by inserting charming characters into the design. Then, SusanClaire shows you how fun it can be to make a table runner using 2- 1⁄2'' strips that feature whimsical fused appliqués enhanced with color. She calls these little gems a ‘skitch’ a day, which is the combination of a sketch and a stitch.

Working Together To Make Something Great
Today marks the closing ceremonies of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. To commemorate the moment, we thought we'd squeeze in one more story related to the games as reported by the University of Wisconsin that we loved. Grace Latz, a former Olympic rower and artist who was just featured in Monday's Textile Talk, "was chosen by the Olympic Museum to lead a workshop for senior citizens, transforming recycle sports materials into a piece of art. With the help of a BERNINA, they created this stunning quilt together!"

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Photogenic "Family" |
|
|
|
"Family Garden" by Lesley Riley
Lesley made Family Garden for a friend of hers who was making a book. The book was on collections and Lesley had a collection of little gem tintypes, which are photographs "made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal, colloquially called 'tin'." So in each flower of the quilt, the flowers themselves are made of heated Lutradur, which is a spun-bond polyester stabilizer, Lesley placed a tintype and created an imaginary family out of the photographs.
