Featured Quilt - 2,500 Pieces of Fabric, 100 Hours to Create

Maya Angelou by Devida Bushrod was featured in the AP&Q Log Cabin Quilting Challenge at QuiltCon 2023. She says, "This quilt of Maya Angelou is made up completely of log cabin blocks. Each of the 108 blocks has a center element that is built upon. As much as possible I tried to keep the center element one solid color, but there are places that it would have taken away critical details, so on those blocks the center element may be broken down into 4 squares. I made this quilt to honour Maya's legacy as I admire her work. This is the second version of this quilt, the other version was made without the log cabins throughout and has been offered to a museum, I made this version to keep for myself and challenged myself to make it slight differently with the log cabins. It is made up of 12 different colours of fabric, approx. 2,500 pieces of fabric and took in the region of 100 hours to create."

See The "What That Quilt Knows About Me" Exhibition

A New Exhibit at the American Folk Art Museum

From the American Folk Art Museum, "Featuring 35 quilts and related works of art, What That Quilt Knows About Me will explore the deeply personal and emotional power associated with the experience of making and living with quilts. The exhibition’s title conveys the idea that quilts have the capacity for “knowing” or containing information about the human experience. Reflecting on this sentiment, the exhibition presents quilts as collections of intimate stories."

What That Quilt Knows About Me
is on display at the American Folk Art Museum in New York, NY from March 17, 2023 to October 29, 2023.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Goat To Gloat About

"Henry the Goat" by Rhonda Denney

Henry the Goat is a portrait quilt of one of the two goats that Rhonda owns. She took a collage class with Sue Carlson, and Henry was the design she wanted to make in the class. Rhonda changed the color palette from the original photo, and the quilt just came out of the fabric in a wonderful and lively way. The piece is one of Rhonda's most popular that people always take notice of when it is displayed.
