Featured Quilt - Judge's Choice Log Cabin Challenge at QuiltCon
2023
Power Struggle by Barbara Danzi was awarded a Judge's Choice Ribbon in the Log Cabin Challenge at QuiltCon 2023. Barbara had this to say about her two competing color choices that dominate her quilt and reign for supremacy in their "Power Struggle", thus giving the quilt its title.
"Purple wants to reign supreme, but when orange shows up, orange and purple struggle for power. I cut all the lines and shapes freehand and machine pieced them, building one large quarter log cabin block, as purple and orange battle it out, trying to outdo each other. I used many different purple and orange fabrics of different values and hues, both glowing and flat to add a lot of depth and movement. Matchstick quilting adds texture but keeps the focus on the graphic design."

"Earthly Delights" by Karen Kay
Buckley
Earthly Delights appeared on the September 1999 cover of Quilter's Newsletter Magazine. Karen says, "This exuberant hand-appliquéd quilt was inspired by the nineteenth-century German textile designer Friedrich Fischbach. Karen cut each piece for the center motif and arranged it on a design board before beginning to sew so she could make changes easily. After the center was stitched, she selected the fabric for the edge and designed the border using elements from the center. The quilt also includes reverse appliqué, piping, and more than 400 circles." She says, "I love making circles, but quilting around each one is another story!"
