Featured Quilt - First Place - Use of Negative Space at QuiltCon
2023
Modern Art (Working Title) by Siobhan Fitzpatrick won First Place - Use of Negative Space at QuiltCon 2023. As to how Siobhan created her award-winning negative space composition, she says "This quilt was inspired by a wide range of modern and contemporary art pieces that date from the 1950s-1970s. The large composition can actually be broken down into 12 smaller 24 inch square mini quilts and is a wonderful study in positive and negative space."

Make Your Own "Painted Forest", And Choose Your Own Colors!
Building Painted Forest,
Scott Hansen’s most popular pattern, was a happy accident. In our new show, Scott shares tips for selecting fabrics that will provide a good contrast between leaves, branches and the background. He says that the pattern is very forgiving and that the results can be very dramatic depending on the fabrics you choose for your forest.
Learn from Scott, and Alex, by watching them in One Unit Two Blocks and Modern Quilt Design with Scott Hansen | Decorate a Fun Storage Tote with Alex Anderson.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Whose Face Do You See?
|
|
|
|
"Many Faces" by Lola Jenkins
Many Faces is Lola's play on
color. She wanted to see what would happen if she just placed colors on her quilt arbitrarily, not thinking about the color wheel or any rules that people set, while also using the most outrageous color she could for the background. Many Faces is what happened out of this experiment. Also different from her other portrait quilts that focus on a single subject, Many Faces uses the same face many times, hence the name. Do you know who it is?
