Featured Quilt - Second Place Windham Artisan Cotton 2024 Challenge at QuiltCon 2024

Blended by Fran Gulick won Second Place in the Windham Artisan Cotton 2024 Challenge (Sponsored by Windham Fabrics) at QuiltCon 2024. What were the requirements for the challenge you may ask? The quilts had to use at least 3 of the 6 challenge fabrics chosen by featured artists Jacquie Gering. For Fran this was an exciting opportunity for her to dig in and make a really "cool" combination of color choices for her design.

She says, "When I looked at this year's fabric for the challenge, I immediately zeroed in on all the cool colors and how they play off each other, almost in a gradient (but not quite). I wanted to play with these tones and the idea of them blending together. The basic idea is what would happen is the right and left columns were superimposed as transparencies to create the center column."

"Lynne Edwards: Swan Song" Exhibition at The Festival of Quilts 2024

A Celebration of a Quilter's Great Body of Work

From The Festival of Quilts: "For over fifty years, Lynne Edwards MBE has been making quilts, and now that retirement looms, it’s time to showcase that enormous body of work and find new homes for them all in her 'Swan Song' exhibition at The Festival of Quilts 2024. It will also be a great opportunity for Lynne to bid a public farewell and thank the hundreds of amazing people she has met, taught, and laughed with over the years."

The exhibit will be on display at The Festival of Quilts from August 1, 2024 – August 4, 2024 at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Appreciate Your Work

"Becoming Frank" by Maday Delgado

Becoming Frank is named for the realization that Maday had about the log cabin block in the upper right-hand corner of the quilt. Initially created as just a regular log cabin, when Maday was finished with it all she could see was the "F" featured in the center of the block. This led her to the name and meaning of the quilt, which is that if you become more frank about the work you create, you will be happier with the results you get instead of worrying about them.
