Kicks by Latifah Saafir (Show 2502) was featured as a part of Latifah's curated exhibit at Quiltcon 2022. The inspiration for the quilt was sharing "happy glimpses" from Latifah's childhood in 1980's Los Angeles with her daughter, and that "You can't have that true urban experience without "tennis shoes"." She says, "The blocks in this quilt were inspired by the hip hop artists that made their silhouettes famous. The Darryl block was inspired by Run-D.M.C. The Calvin block by Snoop Dogg. And the Adam block by the Beastie Boys. This quilt involved quite a bit of intense foundation paper piecing and the realistic Kicks are worth every stitch."

An Online Art Auction Benefiting The World Central Kitchen

It’s been difficult to sit on the sidelines and watch the atrocities in Ukraine without doing anything except donate money to charities. This online art auction of quilts and other handmade goods from Pokey Bolton, Alex Anderson, and other artists will go live May 1, 2022 through May 6, 2022 with 100% of the proceeds going to The World Central Kitchen to benefit Ukraine.

50 fiber artists will be contributing pieces, including Hollis Chatelain, Martha Wolfe, Denyse Schmidt, Natalya Khorover, Judith Content, Leslie Tucker Jenison, and Judy Coates Perez to name just a few.
