Featured Quilt - Best Interpretation of Theme Innovative at PIQF 2024
Sparkling Clover by Karen K. Stone won Best Interpretation of Theme - Innovative at Pacific International Quilt Festival 2024. How did Karen accurately reflect the theme she was trying to convey and win an award because of it? Well, it's because her quilt is inspired from her childhood memories. She says, "At 10, the earnest and innocently expressive phenomenon of the "summer of love" helped mold my young spirit. Timely and reminiscent, this quilt recalls flower-powered dreams that war might end. Title is from "To Lay Me Down" (1970 Garcia/Hunter). Machine pieced from commercial and hand-dyed cottons, and machine quilted with cotton and silk threads and cotton batting."

"Passionately Purple" by Kris Vierra
Passionately Purple is Kris' first longarm quilted quilt. Winning the 2008 Rookie of the Year at MQS, Kris says of her work, "This was my first show quilt. My mom bet me I couldn’t make a purple quilt and I said watch me. The corner LeMoyne stars are appliquéd onto the setting squares and surrounded with feathered wreaths and crosshatching to complete the traditional look."
