Featured Quilt - NACQG Merit Award Recipient at PIQF 2024
Morgana Makes Her Move by Marie O’Kelley received a NACQG Merit Award presented by Andi Perejda at PIQF 2024. Marie says of her quilt, "Morgana, Welsh for "bright sea creature," leaves her cave, and dances across the sea floor and through the kelp forest. Inspired by Sy Montgomery's book, The Soul of an Octopus, the most challenging aspect was depicting an undersea world that I have never visited. Hand appliquéd, some machine piecing, hand quilted." |

Kathryn Puts The "Fashion" In Fashionista and All of Her Work
Artist and fashion enthusiast Kathryn Pellman considers herself a modern folk artist. A storyteller at heart, her whimsical collection of Fashionistas celebrate women and their femininity. A career as a fashion designer took a turn when she discovered quilting in the 80s. Her delightful characters come to life and tell a story through her use of fussy cut commercial prints, raw edge fusing and freeform ‘drawing’. See her works and learn more of her story in our latest show.

Presented by the Surface Design Association: "For some, the universal themes of memory, trauma, and suffering inspire work that considers how we mourn and memorialize our dead. Through stitches, color, textures, and shapes, we give voice to and honor those whose lives were cut short. Join us for Dignifying the Dead: Memorialization through Fiber Art with Caren Garfen, Robin Bernstein, and Mirka Knaster - three fiber artists who translate memory and loss into physical objects, giving voice to individuals for whom no physical memorial may exist."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Fruit of the Vine |

"Vinas Viejas" by Jane Hall
Vinas Viejas is part of Jane's color wash series of quilts. She set it in an asymmetric off-center barn raising design and used a lot of gradated colors from Cherrywood as her fabric choices. Using those colors she created the central portion of the quilt, and decided once that was finished that they looked grape-viney when grouped together. So she went to her backyard where she had a grape arbor and picked a few leaves which she used to make some appliqué designs for the border. This plays into the quilt's title, which translates to "old vines".
