Featured Quilt - A Sneak Peek at Houston 2024
The 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival is coming our way next month, and while we don't know the winners yet, the Festival committee has began doling out sneak peeks at what will be featured at the prestigious show. One such quilt, Indigo Man by Maggie Vanderweit, will be featured in the Hands All Around! exhibit. Maggie says of the quilt, "A recent textile tour to Japan resulted in a deep appreciation for the Japanese textile culture. Exploring the indigo process in Aizumi was truly magical. This man's hands are always blue!" |

Which Words Work For You?
Kathryn Pellman keeps the fun going on our latest show by showcasing commercial fabrics that feature a variety of images and playful words that can be incorporated into a "word salad". She says using words in different colors, sizes, and fonts help to enhance the main character's story on your quilt. Once the elements have been cut and arranged, they are fused in place and free-motion quilted onto a background.

"The Timer / Hanged One: Card #12 in the Kitchen Tarot" by Susan Shie
Susan says of her quilt, The Timer / Hanged One: Card #12 in the Kitchen Tarot, "My kitchen goddess, St Quilta the Comforter, holds the mightly little kitchen timer in her arms, and she herself looks quite calm and ready to await the timer’s announcement that the waiting period is over. Above her right shoulder is a watched pot that never boils, and above her left shoulder hangs a dish towel, a nod to my earlier version of the Hanged One, that I haven’t finished. It just hangs there, in kind of the same silhouette as the actual hanged man has in the traditional card image."
