Featured Quilt - Best Movable Machine Workmanship at AQS QuiltWeek Lancaster 2025
Caravan by Molly Hamilton-McNally won Best Movable Machine Workmanship at AQS QuiltWeek – Lancaster 2025. Then, in just this last year, Molly's quilt won Third Place - Wall Quilts: Movable Machine Quilted (Sponsored by Juki America, Inc.) at AQS QuiltWeek - Paducah 2025 and was featured as part of the Mixed/Other category at Road to California 2025.
Molly says of her quilt, and the inspiration behind it, "From the mysterious lands in the Far East, winding their way along the ancient trade routes now known as the Silk Road, came the caravan carrying goods never before seen in the west. Among their treasures was a shimmering fabric called silk. Today it's still considered just as luxurious. Silk was used in this quilt to enhance the traditional designs that I've loved since childhood, and represents journeys both historical, and personal."

Bold Thread Meets Simple Design with Susan Cleveland |
Let The Thread Do The Talking
Since free-motion quilting isn’t her strong suit, Susan Cleveland gravitates toward precise piecing and structure, emphasizing that these techniques can work in any larger quilt. Heavy threads became her tool of choice, adding bold definition and impact to simple designs with complex stitching. She begins her segment by sharing tips on tension, needle selection, and fabric preparation, then moves on to techniques for accentuating stitches, achieving perfectly straight lines, and using registration marks on block templates.

Textile Talks: Fiber Translation - Research and Material Meaning |
Highlighting How Fiber Is Used in Research and More
Presented by the Surface Design Association: "Join us as we explore fiber art’s ability to translate and transmutate through research processes. Textile designer and academic, Anne McInnis creates work highlighting the power of inter-generational collaboration in the fashion industry. Bridging the gap between new technologies and lived, professional experience, her work strives to dismantle assumptions around materiality as well as societal impressions of age, appearance, and abilities. Josie Rodriguez and David Steele joined forces to create a physical manifestation of music and translate sound to woven object. Their research allows their audiences to not only listen to music but to physically see and touch it, creating new layers of meaning. Unlimited by sociological or material labels, both presentations highlight the connection between the human hand and technology while highlighting the expansive ways fiber is utilized in academic research."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A "Big Red" Quilt |
"Big Red" by Cathy Franks
Big Red is named not only for the striking red fabrics that Cathy used throughout, but also for her home state of Indiana, where "Go Big Red" is a rallying cry to support their football team. It is a very Modern quilt for her, and features the bright reds and greens that she loves, which also are a nod to her love of Christmas. Cathy painted the background squares yellow, and included some truly incredible quilting designs.
