Featured Quilt - The Tramp Commemorated in a Quilt
Silents Knight, Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin was Audrey Kays submission to the New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties exhibition on display at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY. Depicting one of the most famous stars of the silent film era, Charlie Chaplin, as one of his most famous characters, The Tramp, Audrey's quilt brings her subject to life just like in one of his films.
She says, "My work, “Silents Knight” features Charlie Chaplin, an Englishman, who rose to worldwide superstardom portraying “The Tramp” in some 63 films over the course of two decades. I chose the delectable mountains block as my old favorite because of its 1920’s Art Deco elements: bold geometrics, symmetry, and, here, vivid colors. I incorporated gold accents to reinforce the Deco esthetic flourishing in the decade. The delectable mountain blocks are machine pieced and the Chaplin figure is raw edge appliquéd by machine. The quilting is also done by machine." |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Guided By The Light |

"The Lord is my Shepherd" by Kathy K. Wylie
Kathy writes of The Lord is My Shepherd, "The design for this quilt originated with the discovery of a block named “Shepherd’s Light”. I developed the shepherd theme by incorporating imagery from the 23rd Psalm." She sees the quilt as a turning point for her, with her moving into appliqué in a serious way after making it. Kathy views it as a transition from quilting as a hobby to quilting as a career. Using papercut appliqué in the quilt, Kathy found a love for the technique and started to explore different ideas with the papercut blocks, leading to the publication of her first book called Sewflakes.
