Featured Quilt - Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award Traditional at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza

Infinity by Carol Heinitz won the BERNINA Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award in the Traditional category at the 31st Annual Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza. While we can't say for sure, it wouldn't be shocking if you told us that Carol's quilt had an infinite amount of stitches in it to go along with its name. However, we can say that every single one of those stitches helped contribute to its deserved win of the Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award. Congratulations Carol!

Stabilizing Art Paper For Use in Art Quilts with Deborah Fell

Make Your Materials Work For You

Deborah Fell explains how to stabilize unconventional materials like handmade paper for use in art quilts in our brand new show. She also demonstrates how to attach art paper to a cotton duck background, integrating it seamlessly into the fabric. We then look at examples of how these unusual materials are adapted into a final quilt design.

Learn from Deborah by watching her in How to Do Layered Cloth Construction for Collage Quilts and Stitching with No Rules with Deborah Fell.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Escape With New Quilting Ideas

"Escapade" by Libby Lehman

Escapade is a quilt by TQS favorite, and 2009 TQS Legend, Libby Lehman. It incorporates Libby's technique of Sheer Ribbon Illusion which creates an appearance of translucence on the surface of the quilt. She says, "The inspiration for this quilt began in a series of ribbon quilts. The design was sketched on graph paper and then enlarged. The ribbons were drawn freehand and transferred to the top. I am a studio art quiltmaker by profession, and I work on one quilt at a time, from start to finish; consequently, this quilt took about three weeks to complete." Escapade is now in the collection of the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY.

See more of Libby's quilts, and learn how to dow her Sheer Ribbon technique, by watching How to Do Libby Lehman's Sheer Ribbon Embroidery Technique | Quilt Photo Tips.
