Featured Quilt - First Place Abstract at Houston 2024

Climb Every Mountain by Kazuyo Doi won First Place - Abstract (Sponsored Sew Steady) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. Kazuyo's quilt is an original design and features machine piecing and quilting, along with hand appliqué. She says, “I am grateful for my mother, who loved life. She suddenly passed away while gathering cherry tomatoes in her mountain cottage garden on a hot summer day. Each appliquéd circle on the left side, both the colored and the white ones, represents an alphabet that I designed and named The Tomato Code. It reminds me of her life and encourages me at the same time.”

Learn Ice Dyeing with Lynn Koolish

This Demo Is Beyond "Cool"

Lynn Koolish begins our latest show by introducing the fundamentals of dyeing fabric with ice and powder dyes, which create vibrant colors and intricate patterns. She explains how to achieve various effects depending on whether the dye is applied before or after the ice. Lynn also demonstrates how basic tools from around the house can be used to create a range of design effects, including spirals, stripes, and abstract mandalas.

In The Store - Pin Cushion Ring from Little House Japan

The Only Time You Want To Put A Pin In Your Finger

Pin Cushion Rigs from Little House make for convenient pin storage, keeping your pins close at hand (Ha! see what we did there?) during fiddly projects like English Paper Piecing, appliqué, or miniature quilting - anything where you add and remove pins frequently.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Not Your "Garden" Variety Quilt

"Round the Garden" by Wendy Williams

When people hear the name Wendy Williams in the quilting world, they probably think of her Round the Garden quilt. Featuring wonderful wool work and embellishments, it stands out most because of its circular design. This design, which you may have already figured out, is a predecessor and influence on our 2021 BOM Color My World.
