Featured Quilt - First Place Pictorial at Houston 2025

Peony Dream by Chen Jing won First Place - Pictorial (Sponsored by World of Quilts Travel) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. Chen says, "This quilt draws inspiration from "The Peony Pavilion," a classical Chinese opera about love transcending mortal bounds. It depicts a young maiden, enchanted by a spring garden’s blooms, drifting into a dream where she meets an elegant young scholar. The work interweaves realistic human figures with illustrations and calligraphic elements from ancient Chinese books, alongside symbol-laden patterns, using silk and sheer fabric."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Nothing Stands in These Stars' Shadow

"Star Shadows" by Deb Tucker

Star Shadows was designed to be a wall hanging pattern, where Deb would provide you with alternate settings so that you could make it bigger if you'd like. It is a simple three color quilt featuring a dark, a medium, and a light, with a set star design inspired by the work of Judy Martin. Judy made a one-block design with one size, and Deb felt that if it could be one size then it could be another size too. So she created the block in different sizes and offset them to "create the illusion of stars floating over the surface of a quilt and casting shadows below" in a unique design all her own.
