Featured Quilt - First Place Naturescape at Houston 2025

Glimpse Into the Forest by Pat Durbin won First Place - Naturescape (Sponsored by The Warm Company) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. Pat has a history of creating grand nature-inspired quilts that are just as majestic as the outdoor worlds that they portray. This one was no different, as she wanted the people who see it to be drawn in by its beauty just like the real thing. She says, "Love for the redwood forest is my inspiration. I enjoy trying to draw the viewer into the forest to enjoy the view. My unusual techniques help me to use a lot of fabrics to piece together a picture. I hope you enjoy it."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Teachable Improv Quilt

"Next Dimension Still Life" by Jamie Kalvestran

Jamie says that Next Dimension Still Life looks like it doesn't belong among her work, but she feels it does. It came about because people started to ask her about teaching the methods she implemented in the quilt. She originally felt that she wasn't a teacher, and wasn't sure how she would go about teaching these techniques. So Jamie broke the concepts down step by step, and created a beginner's class out of Next Dimension Still Life that would teach improvisational work that would be different from other kinds of improv work that her students might be familiar with from other classes they've taken.
