Featured Quilt - First Place Appliqué at Houston 2025
Lapin by Megumi Mizuno won First Place - Appliqué (Sponsored by TheQuiltShow.com) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. Megumi's quilt was lovingly made as a way to capture the memories she shared with her granddaughter. She says, "My 10-year-old granddaughter loved playing with her stuffed rabbit when she was little. She took it with her wherever she went. I appliquéd the fun memories of those times onto a quilt." And if you didn't know, the title of quilt is quite appropriate too, as lapin in French means rabbit!

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Frolic Through "Felted Trees" |

|

"Felted Trees" by Charlotte Hickman
Felted Trees combines felting and thread play together with fantastic results, featuring a background that is entirely threadpainted. The titular trees of the quilt are a favorite design of Charlotte's, as she likes their twisty, old, and gnarly look. These "wise" trees were created using needle felting and then appliquéd onto the background, while the lower part of the background was pieced.
See more of Charlotte's quilts in How to Do Thread Painting, Roving, and Needle Punch with Charlotte Hickman.
