A Quilt with Outstanding and Astounding Handwork, A Toast to Jane Haworth and Her "Great Show", Alex Anderson LIVE: "Wishes" - Class 01, Textile Talks: Textile Talks Celebrates 250, Our Summer Sale Ends Tonight, A Puzzle That Gets a "B"

May 26, 2025

Featured Quilt - Handwork That Moves All Over the Place

Moving On by Pachy Sarmiento was featured in the Handwork category at QuiltCon 2025. An outstanding quilt visually, Pachy's quilt is astounding too for the amount of handwork put into it. While it may seem that the colors blending together in each circle were created with a print, Pachy actually accomplished the effect by hand stitching the individual dashes one by one to create the effect.

Here's just a little bit more about the quilt, "Moving-on explores geometric abstraction through the interplay of vibrant shapes, bold colors, gradients that evoke movement, and a grid structure which provides balance and order. Each block, through part of a whole, retains a sense of individuality, as the colors and angles in between, inviting to pause and consider each section's uniqueness and as whole. Crafting this quilt by hand, the process becomes an integral part of the narrative offering a visual and tactile engagement."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Beautiful and Bold Both Start with "B" Too

""B" is for Button" by Brian Haggard

Brian's "B" is for Button quilt encompasses (almost) everything that starts with the letter B. Beginning with the "B' smack dab in the center, the "B" of the title also stands for babes, buttons, bows, and more to be found throughout the quilt. The flowery parade of buttons surrounding the outer boarder were created using die-cut felt that Brian found in a local box store in the Christmas aisle. Brian cut the felt up even more and sewed them to the quilt with buttons to create his embellishments.
