Featured Quilt - A Sue Garman Inspired Christmas Themed Quilt

Hard Candy Christmas by Ann-Marie Miro used the TQS 2017 Halo Medallion BOM pattern by Sue Garman as its inspiration. Featured as part of the AQS Medallion Inspirations Collection Special Exhibit at AQS QuiltWeek – Paducah 2025, Ann's quilt took Sue's already stunning design and gave it a Christmas overlay to create a fantastically festive quilt.

Here's what AQS had to say about Ann-Marie's quilt at the exhibit: "This pattern by Susan Garman took Ann-Marie seven years to complete. In the quest to get this UFO done, she omitted her last row and did a reverse couching computerized embroidery pattern. There are 142 handmade ornaments and too many rhinestones to count in this award-winning quilt. The kit was bought right after losing her whole house in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge November 2016 wildfire. While listening to holiday music over the years, Ann-Marie was inspired by Dolly Parton’s song to complete this as a holiday quilt of joy and sparkle!"

Making Collaged Backgrounds with Jane Haworth

Build The Background You Want to See Through Collage

Building animal characters as a whole allows Jane Haworth to audition a variety of options to determine a background that is best suited for the subject. In our new show, she shares an example featuring a bulldog and constructs a collaged background using an assortment of low-volume fabric scraps, allowing the bold color of the dog to stand out.

Plus, see how combining a variety of vintage textiles, prints, laces, and linens can add depth and dimension to the background, enhancing the presence of your character.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Lovely Mandala Quilt

"That's The Way Love Is" by RaNae Merrill

That's the Way Love Is is not the first of RaNae's mandala quilts, but she loves it due to the swirling nature of the central mandala. It made her feel very light-hearted, like she was floating on air, as one would feel when they are in love. To add to that theme, the fabric in the border has butterflies in it, like the butterflies in your stomach signaling that romance is in the air.

See more of RaNae's quilts in How to Piece a Mandala Quilt with RaNae Merrill.
