Featured Quilt - First Place Large Quilts: 1st Entry in an AQS Paducah Quilt Contest at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2025

Sunshine in the Pines by Laurie S. Early won First Place - Large Quilts: 1st Entry in an AQS Paducah Quilt Contest (Sponsored by Gammill®) at AQS QuiltWeek – Paducah 2025. Quilted by Paula Caldwell, Laurie's quilt uses Deborah Dorward's BOM pattern, also titled Sunshine in the Pines, as its design inspiration. With a combination of hand appliqué, hand piecing, and machine piecing, Laurie's work brings out the namesake "sunshine" in the design, which is on full display in the four eight-pointed stars, or suns, that surround the central plant design.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Gardening Improvisationally

"Urban Garden" by Jacquie Gering

Urban Garden is one of Jacquie's most improvisational quilts. Essentially, she went to her scrap buckets, pulled some oranges, greens, and browns, and told herself she needed to make a quilt from what she pulled. She had just happened to have been to a community garden recently, and this quilt is her take on that idea of urban gardening. There is a lone piece of pink fabric in the quilt that snuck in amongst the oranges, and Jacquie says that it represents the strawberry patch in her garden.
