Featured Quilt - A Quilt For the Moms
We love Listen to Your Mother by Jean Ray Laury. The comic book style used is certainly one way of drawing a child's attention, even if they don't listen to the advice. Listen to Your Mother was part of The California Art Quilt Revolution: From the Summer of Love to the New Millennium exhibit at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles in 2017.
The museum had this to say about the quilt, "Laury understood and used the power of the comic strip format as a device that was accessible and understood as a glance. In Listen to Your Mother she addresses the age-old challenge of child rearing."
So on this Mother's Day, enjoy this comically over-the-top, or maybe in some instances all too true, portrayal of motherhood. Perhaps your mom said some of these things to you, or you've even said them to your own children. |

InStyle - The Fashion and Costume Design of "Stranger Things: The First Shadow" |

Step Back In Time and Onto The Stage
Stranger Things, the worldwide television phenomenon from Netflix, is set to conclude its five-season run this year. Set in Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980s, its fashion is very representative of its time period. But did you know that there is a prequel to the show set in the 1950s? And did you know that prequel is actually a broadway play? The play in question, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, just debuted on Broadway last month after transferring over from London's West Side. Costume designer Brigitte Reiffenstuel was recently nominated for the Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Play for work on the show, which features over 500 costumes. Watch and see how Brigitte "reimagines a colorful and blood-soaked Hawkins, Indiana, for the Broadway stage" in this video from InStyle. |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Keep Yours Eyes Focused
|
|
|
|
"Focus" by Karla Alexander
The words featured on Karla's quilt, Focus, state, "You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus," which is a quote by Mark Twain. Playing off the idea of not being able to depend on your eyes, Karla structured the words as if you were to read them off of an eye chart, with the letters at the top being larger and then getting smaller as you go down the quilt.
