Featured Quilt - Best Use of Color at AQS QuiltWeek Daytona Beach 2025

Watermelon Sugar by Amy Pabst won Best Use of Color at AQS QuiltWeek Daytona Beach 2025. While not her first quilt to feature many tiny pieces, it is certainly one of her largest as it measures 49” x 60”. Amy says, "There are over 15,000 pieces in this quilt. Fabrics include velvets, silks, silk blends, linen blends, synthetics, and commercial cottons. There are a lot of discharged cottons and a little hand painted fabric, and even some upcycled bridesmaid dresses."

Watermelon Sugar also won First Place - Pieced (Sponsored by Road to California, Inc.) at Road to California 2025. Congratulations Amy!

Quilt Backings with Alex Anderson

Time To Bring the (Quilt) Back to the Forefront

We often neglect the significance of the quilt backing, but Alex wants to shift your focus to this often-overlooked aspect in our brand new show. While much of our attention goes to the front, it's equally important to consider the types of batting, colors, and backing fabric choices for the back side of your quilt project.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Wearing Your Heart on a Sleeve

"Tatted Hearts" by Cheryl L. See

With Tatted Hearts, Cheryl wanted to show people that even though she was a hand quilter, the quilting she does doesn't have to just be traditional, it can be very innovative. The quilt uses a whole pile of Cheryl's great-grandmother's hand-tatted lace. This allowed her to take something old and make it modern looking. Cheryl hid a lot of things within the quilting itself, like eyeballs, teeth, clocks, and more.
