Featured Quilt - "That's One Small Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind"

You may or may not have noticed, but the Featured Quilts for the last few newsletters have all had a theme. That theme being the moon or space. Well, that's because we've been leading up to today, which is the Fifty-Sixth anniversary of the moon landing. On this day in 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first people to set foot on the moon. To celebrate that accomplishment, we have one more moon quilt for you.

Moon Dance by Cynthia L. Vogt was featured as part of the Pieced category (Sponsored by AccuQuilt - June Tailor) at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival. Cynthia says about her quilt, which uses the traditional Log Cabin Block as its design source, "Waxing in brightness and waning in shadow, this pixelated view of the moon reflects the evening sky. Silver foil embossing and metallic threads reflect the glimmer of distant stars."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Portrait of the Artist

"After the Fire - Self Portrait" by Brandy Maslowski

Brandy says of After the Fire - Self Portrait, "This piece depicts the end of a journey through a challenging, successful, yet spirit crushing career as a female fire fighter. It has been a journey of exhaustion and triumph, of camaraderie and hostility, and finally a path to healing that has forced me to grow physically and spiritually in ways I could never have imagined. In my comforting and creative studio I have discovered my true passion and delved deep into the remarkable worlds of art and literature."
