Featured Quilt - You Can Never Have Too Much Blue

Married to the Sea by Holly Santangelo was featured as part of the In the American Tradition Exhibit at the 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival. The In the American Tradition Exhibit was described as "Contemporary quilt makers often look to the art form's rich tradition and history for inspiration in their own works. This exhibit features recently-made quilts that incorporate traditional blocks, styles, and/or techniques."

Holly's quilt follows those guidelines to a tee, featuring Wedding Ring, Storm at Sea, Sailboat, and Compass Blocks all incorporated into a swashbuckling sea-inspired original design that utilizes A LOT of blue fabric. She says, "I live near the ocean and wanted to create a blue and white quilt. I had a blast designing on my laptop using a CADD program I use for work. Now I need to stop collecting blue fabric."

Starting The Year Off Right

Everyone loves the start of the new year for one reason or another, but we think TQS members love it just a little bit more because that's when we introduce our BOM and its accompanying show. This year is no different, and the reviews are in, everyone loves Jen Kingwell and her 2024 BOM design, Pick a Petal. Here's just a (very) small sample why we're all having a ball with Jen:

"So very excited to start working on this Jen Kingwell design! I had the opportunity to take a class from Jen this past July at Maine Quilts show. She is such a down to earth person with a wonderful sense of humor. Thank you TQS for bringing this quilt and Jen to us all!" - Carole B.

"Another wonderful show from TQS which I know I will watch again (and again). It really is a new day every day with TQS - where else would I get to take lessons from world class quilters. Thank you so much." - Pamela N.

See Some of Alex's Favorites by a Great Artist

Alex will share some of her favorite works by Salley Mavor. Salley is a unique textile artist who creates figures and scenes from textiles. My Bed, Enchanting Ways to Fall Asleep around the World, is Salley's wonderful children's picture book. It took Salley about two years to hand stitch all of the illustrations.

Alex is LIVE TODAY, January 8, 2024 @ 10am PST, 1pm EST, and 6pm London time. All classes are recorded so they can be viewed later.
