Featured Quilt - A Flower a Day Brings Quilting Your Way

Things stick with us, especially if we see certain things every day. That's just what happened to Kim Oleson with the inspiration for her quilt, Memories of Paradise, which was featured in the Machine Quilting category (Sponsored by BERNINA) at the 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival. She says, "The inspiration for this quilt comes from a magnificent hibiscus flower right outside my villa in Bali. I saw it every day as I came and went. When I think of the lush foliage of Bali, this is the flower that comes to mind first The background is a silk blend, and the batiks used in the raw-edge reverse appliqué hibiscus are some that I designed and made in Java and picked up on my travels through Indonesia. This quilt is third in a series."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: The 2024 Block Of the Month

"Pick a Petal" by Jen Kingwell

Jen was inspired to create Pick a Petal, the 2024 Block Of the Month, by the meadow next door to where she lives. At certain times of the year, there are some flowers that pop up in the field that she can view from her studio, which gives the quilt its name. Featuring piecing, appliqué, and hand embroidery, there is something for everyone to love in this year's Block Of the Month.

I enjoyed reading the stories about other quilters. It's always inspiring to hear about the creative suika game projects that people are working on.
