Featured Quilt - Best of Show at Road to California 2026

The 30th anniversary of the Road to California quilt show is happening right now and runs through this Saturday, January 24, 2026. The Best of Show award was given to someone you may have heard of before, one of the masters of the miniature quilt, Aki Sakai. Her award-winning quilt, Happy Days, celebrates everything that makes her happy, which of course included making this quilt. She says, "I'm thankful to spend happy days making quilts. The design was based on my favorite things and family memories. I like doll houses, so I designed the house in the middle. I also like to make cute and small sampler quilts."

The Crafty Quilter Tutorial: Tips For Finishing UFO's

Start Your New Year Off By Finishing Off Last Year's Projects

From Julie Cefalu, The Crafty Quilter: "It’s a new year and a great time to start tackling some UFO’s (unfinished projects). They accumulate for many of us because we can’t resist a new project, which leaves our current project abandoned and unfinished. That definitely describes me; I get distracted by shiny new projects all the time! Today, I’m sharing tips for finishing UFO’s and other ways to get rid of them."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Looking Towards the Sky

"Where Did All the Blue Skies Go" by Angie E. Knowles

When creating this piece, a line from one of Marvin Gaye's songs, Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology), resonated with Angie and became the title of the quilt. The line and title, Where Did All the Blue Skies Go, are a reminder for us all of the environmental changes that the world was going through both then and now.
