Featured Quilt - First Place Other at Road to California 2024

It's won not once, not twice, but THREE times in less than a year. That's right, Marilyn Badger has won again with her quilt Cleopatra's Treasure, winning First Place in the Other category at Road to California 2024. In addition to this latest prize, Marilyn's quilt has also received The BERNINA Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award at PIQF 2023 and won First Place in the Wall Quilts: Movable Machine Quilted category (Sponsored by Juki America) at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2023.

Marilyn says that Cleopatra's Treasure is the "Second in a series of doily quilts featuring hand dyed vintage doily by Wendy Richardson and fabrics by Paula Nadelstern. They seem to compliment each other so well. Lots of beading on this one, along with hand embroidery and painting to accent the quilting designs."

And be sure to click the Quilt Video tab when visiting the quilt in the gallery to watch a video of Marilyn and Bonnie Browning discussing Cleopatra's Treasure in detail, with great close-ups, after her win at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2023.

Building Round Blocks with Diana S. Fox

You Won't Go Round and Round Learning To Make These

Diana S. Fox discusses the basics of building your own group of a tree ring using fabric, felt, and interfacing that is cut into various size rings on our latest show. Free motion stitches add cracks and texture, while a satin stitch gives a clean finished edge. She then shares ideas for using tree rings on greeting cards, mounted on the wall (as a group), or as an open bowl.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Wearing Your Heart on a Quilt

"The Healing Heart" by Jane Dunnewold

The Healing Heart was the first quilt that Jane got into a National competition, and the first piece she had in the Visions exhibition in San Diego when TQS Quilt Legend Michael James was a juror. Michael commented to Jane that she had a really fresh take on utilizing a heart in the quilt, which she was thrilled about because it was drawn by Jane's daughter when she was four or five years old. Jane took that drawing and had it silkscreened so that it could be added to the quilt's overall design and become one of its primary elements, hence the title of the quilt.
