Featured Quilt - When Something Goes Wrong, Fix It!

When making a quilt, you can't expect everything to go well right out of the gate. There is always going to be something that needs to be redone or fixed after the first pass. Linda Fleschner's quilt, Murphy's Monster, could be seen as the embodiment of that ideal. Featured as part of the A Celebration of Color Exhibit (Sponsored by eQuilter.com) at the 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival, here's what Linda had to say about why that sentiment rang true for her (and also inspired the name of the quilt).

She says, "I wanted to create a quilt using ombre fabrics that seemed to have light at its center. In each of the petals, the circles go from light to dark, starting at the tip and going to the center. Although it was quite successful, this quilt is a testament to Murphy's Law - anything that can go wrong will go wrong. During the process, I had to re-draw, re-cut, re-make, re-mark, re-sew, and generally re-do most of the quilt."

It's Time For Show and Tell with Jen Kingwell

Take In a Variety of Jen's Quilting History

The 2024 Block of the Month, Pick A Petal designed by Jen Kingwell, was inspired by fields of spring flowers outside Jen's home in Australia. Known for her scrap-happy vintage aesthetic that combines an exuberant mix of fabrics, unconventional color combinations make Jen’s quilts instantly recognizable. Watch the first show of the new year and take a look at a sampling of Jen's quilts, including an old favorite she made while in nursing school.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Beautiful Fall of Snow

"Snowflake Soliloquy" by Cyndi McChesney

Wanting to design more quilts, Cyndi took to the school of Sally Collins because of her love of geometric shapes, studying her book on drafting, watching her DVD, taking a workshop with her, and watching her show, How to Do Precision Piecing with Sally Collins, right here on TQS to become a great quilt designer. Snowflake Soliloquy was Cyndi's first effort at drafting her own quilt, and we feel she hit a home run right out of the box.

Learn from Sally right here on The Quilt Show too by watching her in How to Do Precision Piecing with Sally Collins.
